The experience of buying and owning what appeared to be a stunning new production camper van but turned out to be a very expensive rust bucket was incentive enough to want to rebel against mass produced, highly priced, poorly constructed products.
We wanted to create a camper van that had the heart and soul of the old VW Splitties and Bays, but in a vehicle that was ultra-reliable and had mod cons such as heating and power steering, not to mention the ability to cruise comfortably on motorways and power up hills. It also seemed obvious to provide an option for surfers and include somewhere to store surfboards. Many commercial conversions have models called 'Surf', which have nothing to do with surfing whatsoever – our surf vans have board and wetsuit storage and are designed by surfers for surfers.
